What ingredients are in pasta with vegetables?
Pasta
There are many types of pasta that can be made with vegetables. Some popular options include penne, spaghetti, macaroni, fusilli, and penne pasta. I used gemelli pasta for this recipe but any other short pasta will still work and you can even use your regular spaghetti pasta or angel hair pasta to make this.
Vegetables
When it comes to vegetable pasta, there are lots of vegetables out there that you can use. You can choose to use fresh vegetables as I did or opt for frozen vegetables. Some popular vegetables to use in pasta recipes include green beans, broccoli, radish, peas, carrots, zucchini, mushrooms, squash, fresh tomatoes, bell peppers, and spinach. You can always get creative with different vegetables to create your own unique dish. Adding more vegetables to your pasta dish makes for a much tastier and textured pasta recipe. It is also a great way to increase the nutrients and flavor of the meal.
Pasta sauce
I used a simple homemade pasta sauce for this recipe, it serves as a base for the other ingredients and also adds redness to the pasta. However, you can use a different type of red sauce such as marinara, or canned tomato sauce for it. If you prefer a white sauce for your vegetable pasta, you can try making a white sauce like alfredo sauce. A simple creamy pasta with vegetables can also be achieved by adding some cooking cream or heavy whipping cream.
Tomato pasta
Tomato paste serves as a thickener in this pasta recipe, it also helps to add a bright red color to the dish. You don’t have to add too much just a little will go a long way.
Vegetable stock
I used liquid stock and a vegetable stock cube to increase the flavor and richness of this pasta with the vegetable recipe. You can use either chicken or vegetable stock in your pasta recipe. If you want to make it vegetarian, you can use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth. Make sure to use low-sodium chicken broth if you choose to go with chicken broth and also adjust the amount of salt or other seasonings as needed.
Parmesan cheese
This adds a delicious cheesy flavor and richness to the pasta with vegetables. You can also experiment with different types of cheeses to get the perfect flavor for your dish or use nutritional yeast for a vegan version.
Olive oil
I added a little bit of olive oil to the pasta water while cooking it to help prevent the pasta from sticking together and I also used some of the oil to sautee the vegetables. Olive oil has a mild fragrance and is great for pasta recipes such as this. It gives the pasta an amazing flavor and makes it glossy. Try using a good quality extra virgin olive oil as it has a light texture which allows it to blend easily with other ingredients in a dish.
Herbs and spices
You can add a variety of herbs and spices to your vegetable pasta recipe. I used black pepper, red chili, fresh garlic onion, dried oregano, dried thyme, all-purpose seasoning, and a little bit of salt. All of these help to create a savory and pleasant flavor and taste in the dish. Feel free to season the dish how you want and also adjust the spices to your taste.
